Get Your Summer Glow On: 5 Must-Have Vitamins for a Healthier You

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on Jul 15 2023
Reading Time: 3 minutes Summer is a time when most people try to look and feel their best because we’re typically outdoors enjoying the warmer weather and all the fun activities that come along with it.  However, with the warm weather and scorching sun, it's important to take care of your body. One way to do that is to make sure you have the right vitamins in your diet.  Whether you're spending your days lounging by the pool or going on a tropical adventure, these 5 must-have vitamins will keep you looking and feeling your best. Let's take a closer look and see how these nutrients can benefit you this summer. Vitamin A  Vitamin A is an essential nutrient that promotes healthy skin, nail, and hair growth. This vitamin is linked to skin health because it promotes collagen production. Collagen is an important component of skin tissue and helps keep our skin looking vibrant and youthful.  Vitamin A is connected to eye health and cornea protection, and when you’re out in intense summer sunlight all day, it’s best to take precautions to take care of your vision.  In addition, vitamin A also supports a healthy, active immune system, which is important during the summer months when believe it or not, we tend to be more exposed to certain germs.  Vitamin C Vitamin C is best known for supporting the immune system but it's also essential for healthy skin, especially during the summer when we're more prone to sunburns and other skin damage.  Studies show that this powerful antioxidant can support reduced inflammation states in your skin, and we all know how the skin needs extra TLC from the damaging effects of summer UV rays.  You can get your daily dose of vitamin C from fruits and veggies like oranges, strawberries, and bell peppers, but also vitamin supplements just to be sure you’re getting the right amount.  Vitamin D3 Vitamin D3 is commonly referred to as the "sunshine vitamin" because our skin makes it when exposed to sunlight and it’s essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth. Spending time outdoors and getting plenty of sunlight is the best way to get your daily dose of vitamin D3, but you can also take supplements if you're not getting enough sunshine or need to stay out of the sun.  This vitamin is especially important during the summer months when we spend more time in the sun, but studies show that around 42% of people in the United States are vitamin D deficient, so it’s worth considering a supplement year-round. Biotin Biotin is often referred to as the "beauty vitamin" because it supports healthy hair, skin, and nails. This nutrient is essential for the production of keratin, which is the protein that makes up our hair, skin, and nails.  Biotin deficiency can lead to brittle nails, hair loss, and dry skin. You can get your daily dose of biotin from foods like eggs, nuts, and fish, and by taking a quality supplement.  Multivitamin with Iron Summer is a time when we tend to be more active, which means our bodies need more nutrients to keep up with the demands. A multivitamin with iron is a great way to ensure you're getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs.  The addition of iron is especially important for women, who are often iron deficient. Iron is essential for healthy blood flow and energy levels, so it's important to make sure you're getting enough. A good multivitamin with iron can help you feel your best this summer. Your Summer Vacation with EZ Melts With these 5 must-have vitamins, you can make sure you're giving your body everything it needs to thrive this summer. Your Simple Guide to Vitamin Bs

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on Apr 22 2023
Reading Time: 4 minutes There are eight B vitamins to keep track of, and all of them are crucial to your metabolism, energy levels, brain function, and well…most functions in the human body.  All eight of these nutrients are found in food, however, millions of people in the United States—and the world—are vitamin deficient, meaning that many people aren’t living at their peak wellness.  There’s a lot of information out there on just vitamin Bs alone, so we’ve made a simplified guide with a snapshot of what systems in your body each vitamin B supports.  Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) For: Kidneys Immune system Cognitive function Nerves Vitamin B1, also known as thiamine, is necessary for brain function and energy production. It’s also connected to healthy kidney function and immune system function. Thiamine is an essential nutrient that must be obtained from food or supplements; like the other B vitamins, it cannot be made by the body. Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) For: Metabolism Healthy organs Immune system DNA/RNA production Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is an essential nutrient that helps with the production of DNA and RNA. It's also needed for the maintenance of healthy skin, hair and nails. Vitamin B2 helps with the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Vitamin B1 is also found in many foods made with yeast, including beer and baked goods. It's also important for the maintenance of healthy heart muscles and red blood cells.  Vitamin B3 (Niacin) For:  Cell turnover Energy levels Healthy digestion Healthy skin Nervous system You may know vitamin B3 as niacin. It's a water-soluble vitamin that's important for energy production and helps to maintain a healthy digestive system.  Niacin also plays an important role in keeping your skin healthy, as well as maintaining the health of your nervous system. Niacin is found in meat, fish, poultry, and certain vegetables.  Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) For: Hormone production Energy levels Metabolism Healthy organs Vitamin B5 is one of the lesser-known B vitamins. It plays an important role in energy production and metabolism, as well as helping your body maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails. It's also known as pantothenic acid because it can be synthesized in the body from pantothenate (vitamin B5).  Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) For: Nervous system Metabolism Energy production Childhood development Vitamin B6 supports many bodily functions, including growth and development, energy production and protein metabolism, and the nervous system. Many people who don’t eat meat have a vitamin b 6 deficiency, so it’s important to make sure you’re getting enough if you're a vegetarian or vegan. Vitamin B7 (Biotin) For: Healthy hair, skin, nails,  Metabolism Energy levels Muscle support Cholesterol levels Vitamin B7 (also known as biotin) is a water-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in energy production. It's also essential for metabolism, which helps you process the food you eat and turn it into energy.  The main function of vitamin B7 is to help convert carbohydrates into glucose (blood sugar), which gives us the energy we need to stay awake and active throughout the day, but is connected to so many other processes as well, including—yes—hair, skin, and nails, which is is most known for.  Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid or Folate) For:  Lower likelihood of birth defects Heart health Cognitive function Nervous system Vitamin B9 (folic acid) is essential for cell growth and repair. It also supports the production of red blood cells, which help deliver oxygen to your tissues. Folic acid is linked to healthy brain function, nervous system health, and heart health. Folic acid is especially important during pregnancy because it is linked to supporting lower instances of birth defects. Vitamin B12 For: Nerve function Red blood cell count Metabolism Energy levels Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that helps maintain nerve cells and red blood cells. It also helps make DNA, red blood cells, and fatty acids (fats). Vitamin B12 plays an important role in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Vitamin B12 plays an important role in maintaining healthy nervous system function as well as energy levels. It supports cardiovascular health by helping to maintain a healthy heart muscle as well. This is the B vitamin most people are lacking in their diet, especially vegans and vegetarians.  B-Complex B-Complex is a supplement that includes all eight essential B vitamins. While it’s rare to be lacking all eight of these Bs in your diet, many people today aren’t getting enough of all eight. Covering your bases with a quality B-Complex vitamin might be your best bet if you aren’t sure. Conclusion All these Bs might be making your head spin at this point—but Bs are essential to your health. Simplify the hassle of keeping them all straight by taking a B-Complex supplement. In addition to a well-rounded diet, a B-Complex supplement can help to bridge any nutrient gap you may have with your vitamin Bs.  Our vitamins are non-GMO, vegan, sugar-free, and free from the nine most common allergens. 5 Tips for Your Best Winter Skin

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on Jan 09 2023
Read Time: 4 minutes The colder months can be hard on our skin. The dry air, lack of sunlight, and harsh winds can lead to dry, flaky patches, skin conditions, and premature skin aging if you're not careful. But the good news is that you can do plenty of things to keep your skin looking radiant and healthy. Here are five simple tips that can help you get started on a path toward gorgeous winter skin. Use a Humidifier As we get into the cold winter months, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated. The dry air can lead to dry, cracked skin that can break out and worsen any existing skin conditions you may have. A humidifier is a simple solution to this problem. Humidifiers add moisture back into the air which can help with dry skin conditions and keep your air passages from drying out and becoming uncomfortable during these colder months. Use a humidifier daily with clean, filtered water. This will help protect your skin during colder months when there is less humidity than usual, especially in certain regions of the country that experience harsher winter weather. Ditch Harsh Cleansers If you're looking to finally get rid of the dry skin that's been plaguing you all winter, consider switching up your face wash for something a little more natural.  Cleansers with rough exfoliants and chemicals can have your skin going haywire, especially when it's already sensitive and affected by winter weather. Try something a little closer to nature. For example, coconut oil is an excellent alternative to traditional cleansers because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, among many other potential benefits. Because of this, coconut oil can support your skin barrier and its efforts to fight off free radicals in your environment. Free radicals are toxins that cause damage to cells and DNA. After cleansing, be sure to follow up with a good moisturizer to condition and nourish your skin. Food for Skin Health The foods you eat can have a profound impact on the health of your skin. To ensure that yours is glowing and radiant, avoid processed foods (especially those high in salt, sugar, and saturated fat) and make sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, and lean proteins. Spinach is one of the best options as far as nutrients for skin health are concerned (it's packed with vitamin A). If leafy vegetables aren't your thing, then opt instead for cauliflower or broccoli which contain fewer calories than their green counterparts but still offer plenty of vitamin C, another great nutrient for skin health. Invest in the Right Vitamins An easy way to support your best skin health in winter 2023 is knowing which vitamin supplements will be the most beneficial.  To make it even easier to get the nutrients you need for glowing skin, we have a Hair, Skin, and Nail Support bundle which includes all three of these natural supplements.  Here's what's included in our bundle and why: Vitamin C: Vitamin C is involved in collagen production and formation, which forms the basis for brighter, vibrant skin. Vitamin A: Vitamin A is essential for maintaining healthy skin and hair. It also supports your skin in protecting against premature aging and blemishes. Biotin: Biotin assists your body in producing keratin so you can support healthy hair, skin, and nails from the inside out. Don't Forget the Sunscreen in Winter Did you know that sun damage is the leading cause of premature skin aging? And did you know that UVA rays are present year-round, even during winter? So while it’s easy to forget about SPF in winter, don't! Wear sunscreen every single day—even in winter, and even indoors. If you're looking for an extra boost of hydration and protection from the elements, combine your moisturizer with an SPF 15 or higher. When applying sunscreen on your face, make sure to cover all exposed areas including where you shave and around your ears because these areas are especially prone to sun damage if left unprotected. Also, be sure not to neglect the neck area; it may seem insignificant but thinning skin here can also lead to wrinkles over time. Don't forget about lips either—yep, they count as skin too! They're one of the most visible signs of aging so they should receive plenty of attention when it comes time for reapplication. Your Best Skin in 2023 We hope these tips will help you proactively approach your skin health this winter. Remember that taking good care of yourself—both inside and out—is important no matter what time of year it is. Taking a daily vitamin supplement is a simple yet effective way to benefit your long-term health goals and your best skin. Try our Hair, Skin, and Nail Support bundle to get the three best, natural supplements for your skin.  Just make sure it is made without harmful additives or ingredients. Our vitamins are non-GMO, vegan, sugar-free, and free from the nine most common allergens. We make it EZ to get the nutrition you need with our fast-melting supplements.  And with our subscription service, it’s even easier to take care of yourself. Tired of Finding Hair in the Shower Drain? 5 Simple Healthy Hair Tips

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on Mar 22 2022
Read Time: 5 minutes Are you noticing a lot of hair clogging up the shower drain lately? First off, don’t panic! Hair shedding is normal for everyone and it’s a part of the growth process.  However, factors like stress, diet, and genetics can play a role in excessive hair shedding. If you are worried that your hair loss is significant or you have fine follicles, there are simple steps you can take to support healthy hair density and minimize fallout. Here are five tips to grow luscious, strong locks.  1. Beat the Heat There’s nothing like a good blowout to make you feel your best, but styling tools cause irreparable damage to your hair follicles and cause extra hair fallout. Heat protectant sprays can protect your hair to an extent, but using hot tools daily causes the follicle to become brittle and eventually break.  Save the heat for special occasions if you can and use a towel scrunchie to put your wet hair back until it dries. If you can’t bear to part with your hot tools, try for every other day, or take out a step in your daily routine.  For example, instead of drying then curling with tools, wash your hair earlier in the morning or evening and let it air dry naturally. Then style and go about your day (or night). 2. Your Scalp Needs TLC Too There’s tons of protectant sprays, hair masques, keratin leave-in conditioners, and volumizing hair treatments out there, but you might be missing the root of the hair loss problem (pun intended): your scalp.  Over time, product builds up on the surface, tight hairstyles can pull at your roots, and shampoo can strip your hair of its natural oils. All of this can lead to dull, weak, and brittle hair.  Protect your scalp by minimizing the amount of times you wash your hair (yes really). Shampoo has sudsing agents and ingredients that can strip oils and clog your roots.  Try using less products, and get a quality scalp detox treatment. If you want, you can opt for a more natural scalp detoxifier, like those that contain apple cider vinegar.  Also, use loose hair ties, clips, or other accessories that don’t pull at your roots. If your hair tangles easily after you step out of the shower, try a wet brush to minimize breakage and massage your scalp.  3. Sleep Instead of Shed Every system in your body is interconnected, and hair is no different. Taking care of your basic needs, like getting a good night’s sleep, is vital to hair health.  If you find it difficult to sleep at night, try a natural support like melatonin and read up on our favorite sleep tips.  For starters, go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning…yes, even on weekends or days off! Your body craves routine, so skip the extra episode tempting you on Netflix if you can.  4. Food for Healthy Follicles This pairs naturally with the previous tip. Good, balanced nutrition is essential for healthy hair, and well, everything else.  Make sure you are getting ample whole grains, greens, vitamin C, lean protein, and healthy fats like omega-3s to support optimal hair health and growth.  Minimize sugar, preservatives, and trans fats, which may sound like a broken record in this day and age, but the American diet still greatly favors these unhealthy ingredients.  5. Supplements for Shining Locks One of the easiest, least time-consuming ways to support the best hair growth and health while minimizing unnecessary shedding is taking a quality supplement daily. You’ve probably already heard of biotin, one of the B vitamins, which is said to encourage faster hair growth, but there are plenty of other supplements to try as well. Iron, vitamin C, and vitamin D are three great supplements to check out if you are losing hair density due to shedding and breakage.  Iron is necessary for hair shaft health, and low levels can cause shedding. Vitamin C supports iron absorption in your gut, and it supports hair growth. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with brittle bones, but it is also linked with hair breakage and shedding.  If you’re finding it difficult to get adequate vitamins and minerals in your daily diet, consider bridging the nutrition gap with quality supplements.  The EZ Melts Difference While you may be able to find supplements elsewhere, it’s finding quality products that counts when it comes to your health. The Best Supplements for Aging Gracefully

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on Feb 15 2022
Read Time: 4 minutes Many of us hope to “age well”, as they say. While that may look and feel different from person to person, aging is a process that affects us all. And aging well isn’t just about looks nor is it a superficial sentiment; it’s a process that affects our bodies holistically. Supporting our health and wellness as we age is the best form of self-care, and there are so many ways to do it. One of the easiest ways to take care of your mental and physical wellness through all stages of life is taking supplements daily. Here are the top supplements for supporting your best life—here’s to getting older but not feeling older! Work Out Like a Pro Exercise and remaining physically fit is key to supporting your musculoskeletal system and mental wellness as you age. CoQ10 supplements may help support enhanced physical performance and energy levels during exercise. This is because free radical damage negatively impacts muscle function, and CoQ10 has been shown in studies to help decrease oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Stress-Free is the Way to Be Did you know that stress prematurely ages you, both externally and internally? Protect your mind and body from excessive mental strain by taking L-theanine daily, which supports lower cortisol levels (aka stress hormones). Then take melatonin at night to support your circadian rhythm and a good night’s sleep. Sleep is when your body repairs itself and supports cognitive functioning. Beautiful Skin at Any Age There are many supplements that claim to support glowy, healthy skin. And while it’s helpful to have external skin care, rubbing in a cream or serum will only target the area you put it on. For overall skin health, try biotin for cell turnover and production, vitamin C for even, bright skin tone and collagen synthesis, as well as vitamin A which protects collagen. No Bones About It A decline in bone density and conditions like osteoarthritis, which cause brittle, weak bones are common as we age. Heart issues and heart disease are also common in aging adults. Work to combat this now with calcium! This mineral is essential to your health and can only be found externally in our food sources. Calcium is widely known as being associated with bone growth and strength, as well as cardiovascular health. It also aids with blood clotting. Want to enhance the absorption and transfer of calcium to your bones? Pair it with D3 + K2. Remember to Take Care of Cognitive Health Memories matter, and so does brain health. As we age, our brain cells can decline in productivity or regeneration, and certain diseases such as Alzheimer’s are more likely to develop. Act now to lower the likelihood of cognitive impairment and try a supplement like resveratrol. Resveratrol, commonly found in supplement form, might have anti-aging properties, including stimulating cell regeneration, warding off extra pounds, and even helping with glucose intolerance. The EZ Melts Difference You can find supplements everywhere these days…it’s finding quality products that counts when it comes to your health. Make sure you are choosing a brand that cares about what they put into their supplements as much as you care about what goes into your body. A Woman’s Cheat Sheet to 5 Essential Vitamins

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on Aug 02 2021
Read time: 4 minutes While everyone needs balanced nutrition, women’s bodies have specific needs that need to be met when it comes to vitamins. Many women go through so many changes throughout their life. For example, when a person becomes pregnant or is breastfeeding, nutritional needs change even further. It can be hard to keep track of all of the vitamins and minerals one gets in their diet, on top of making sure it is all balanced, quality nutrition. Supplements make it easy for women to fill the gaps...but what vitamins specifically should women be focusing on? We sifted through all the research and created this handy guide so you know exactly what to look for in minutes. Iron Iron is a mineral that is critical to endurance, strength, and vitality. Iron is essential for blood to carry oxygen through your body. It’s also necessary to create blood cells in general, hence why a shortage of iron = higher risk of conditions like anemia. And pregnant women need to nearly double their intake, because it aids in neurological development and is essential for growth in children. The recommended daily dosage for women (not including pregnant women) is around 18mg, according to the NIH. Folate Folate is the form of B9 which is found in foods, while folic acid is the synthetic version of B9. Both are safe, approved by the FDA, and equally useful. Folate is found in whole foods such as leafy greens like spinach and broccoli, chickpeas and kidney beans, liver, and more. Folic acid supplements are one of the most important vitamins to add to a daily regimen when pregnant. This is because, during the gestation of a fetus, a person’s body needs to increase the production of DNA, which requires folic acid. Taking folic acid supplements when pregnant can decrease the likelihood of congenital heart defects and other birth defects, preterm birth, and ectopic pregnancy.  However it’s important for every woman. Folic acid, along with the other seven B vitamins, supports a healthy metabolism by breaking down carbohydrates into fuel for energy. Vitamin B9 also helps support an even mood and emotional health and has been found to aid other vitamins in lowering the risk of heart disease. The daily recommended dosage for non-gestating women is 400mcg, according to the NIH. Calcium Women are more prone to developing osteoporosis and other bone diseases than men are. Work to combat this now with calcium! Medical professionals recommend slightly different amounts according to age groups, but the fact remains the same: this mineral is essential to your health and can only be found externally in our food sources. Calcium is widely known as being associated with bone growth and strength, as well as cardiovascular health. It also aids with blood clotting. For women, the NIH recommends anywhere from 1000-1300mg daily, but it varies depending on age. Biotin Biotin does a lot more than take care of hair, skin, and nail health—but that’s certainly a bonus. Biotin, or vitamin B7, is incredibly important. It supports our thyroid gland and hormone production, helps with fetal development during pregnancy, and also helps your metabolism. According to the NIH, the recommended daily dose for adult women is 30-35 mcg, but recommendations do vary. Vitamin D Vitamin D not only aids in calcium absorption by helping with cell transportation of nutrients. In general vitamin D supports major organs, proper immune function, and the musculoskeletal system. It also helps support your mood and energy levels throughout the day. A lot of people get vitamin D3 through sunlight, but not enough. There are many with vitamin D deficiency, so try pairing your outdoor time with a supplement. The recommended daily dose by the NIH in adult women is around 600 IU, or 15 mcg, but it may vary according to your needs. 4 Benefits of Biotin You Don’t Hear About

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on May 01 2021
Read time: 3 minutes Vitamin B7, or as many people know it, biotin, is an incredibly important B vitamin to get enough of. Often it is found in health supplements meant to aid in growing strong hair and nails and keeping skin glowing year-round. But what many people may not realize is biotin is essential for everyone, at every stage of life. Unfortunately, we have to get biotin through our food sources, and many people end up lacking the vitamins and minerals they need to live their best lives. Here are four benefits of biotin beyond hair, skin, and nails that might surprise you. Healthy Weight Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and we as a society still have a way to go in normalizing differences. However, if you are concerned about your weight’s impact on your physical health, one such factor to be aware of is making sure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals. This is because biotin, among other essential vitamins, supports thyroid regulation, and your thyroid, in turn, affects hormone balance and function, weight, and metabolism. Several enzymes in your body that process and metabolize fat, carbs, and proteins are supported by biotin. We can all celebrate our unique selves while still getting all the nutrition our body needs to function properly, biotin included. Fetal Development While it is rare to have a complete lack of biotin in one’s nutrition these days, always consult with a medical professional to make sure, especially if you’re expecting. Biotin is critical for many enzymatic reactions involved in growth and metabolism. Pregnant women particularly can become B7 deficient, and deficiency has been correlated with skeletal abnormalities in mammals and preterm infants. An increase in the amount of biotin consumed is often needed to support fetal growth for both parent and child. Blood Sugar Biotin is being studied in relation to supporting healthy blood sugar levels. Scientists believe that biotin may be connected to the body’s ability to regulate and synthesize glucose once it enters the bloodstream. If there is a history of glucose intolerance in your family or you are feeling especially fatigued and can’t pinpoint the issue, talk to your medical provider about the possibility of blood sugar abnormalities and if changing or supplementing your diet with vitamins and minerals like B7 will support a healthier lifestyle. Heart Health Heart disease is still the number one cause of death for men and women across the board, so it’s incredibly important to maintain cardiovascular health and find ways to support your heart. Proper nutrition and exercise are both very important for optimal heart health. Biotin has been correlated in some studies with lower levels of fat storage in the heart, and excess fat is known to be a risk factor in heart disease. While it is also important not to take too much biotin, as some studies suggest it can skew lab tests, B7 is a vital component of organ health. Making sure to get adequate amounts of biotin in external sources, such as supplements and food, is a great way to support a healthy, active lifestyle. The EZ Melts Difference If you try biotin supplements, see why EZ Melts is better--our vitamins are fast melting, EZ to take, and have a delicious customer-approved flavor. A Woman’s Key to Radiant Health

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on Jan 21 2021
Many people, especially women, focus on outward appearances. We spend so much money and time in an effort to look good, we often forget to make sure we feel good too. At EZ Melts, we believe beauty radiates from the inside, and when you take care of your health, it shows! Making sure you get all essential vitamins and minerals is a huge step in the right direction, but unfortunately, most of us don’t. Did you know that 92% of Americans today are nutrient-deficient? There’s lots of room for improvement here! Biologically speaking, when talking about essential nutrients, females and males should focus on different daily amounts and different supplements regardless of gender identity. Here are some of the key vitamins and minerals women should pay extra attention to--and scroll down for a special offer on all of them!   Vitamin D According to research, about 42% of Americans today are vitamin D deficient! Low levels of vitamin D are linked to out-of-whack autoimmune responses, mood swings, and chronic skin conditions. Taking a D3 supplement will promote healthy cell growth and turnover, proper immune function, bone health, and a strong musculoskeletal system. Calcium Female bodies are more prone to developing osteoporosis and other bone diseases. Work to combat this now with calcium!  Medical professionals recommend slightly different amounts according to age groups, but the fact remains the same: this mineral is essential to your health and can only be found externally in our food sources.  Calcium is widely known as being associated with bone growth and strength, as well as cardiovascular health! And vitamin D3, mentioned above, aids in cellular transport of calcium, so pair it with a D3 supplement!   Biotin Biotin is connected with supporting luscious hair, strong nails, and beautiful, glowing skin. But did you know that on top of this, biotin does so much more? It can support lower cholesterol levels, promotes fetal development, weight control, and thyroid health, among other benefits.   Multivitamin Through evolution, our bodies lost the ability to create many nutrients on their own due to getting them through our food sources. Therefore, our bodies need to get many essential nutrients by eating and metabolizing them. Supplements are a great, quick, and cost-effective way to ensure you are getting maximum health benefits, and pairing a multivitamin with specific supplements only works to ensure you get everything you need!   The Full Package The ability to convert vitamins and minerals into digestible nutrition in the body is called bioavailability, and it is proven that combining specific vitamins and minerals together can enhance the absorption--supporting better health! Especially if you identify as vegan, pregnant, or more senior in age, taking supplements can support optimal health and wellness (with a doctor’s recommendation). EZ Melts’ Biotin, Calcium, D3, and Multivitamin are key for women’s optimal health. They can all be bought separately on our website--but make it easier AND less costly when you buy the EZ Melts Essential Women’s Health Bundle at a discount! Biotin: More Than Beautiful Hair, Skin, and Nails!

by Annie-Eliza Stevens on Aug 26 2020
You’ve probably seen biotin marketed in a hundred different ways in the past decade, especially targeted towards people who identify as women. You might be wondering... what does biotin do? What is biotin good for? Well--for exactly what the ads say--biotin is connected with supporting luscious hair, strong nails, and beautiful, glowing skin; three things that many humans, including women, believe are signs of health and wellness. This is because biotin, or vitamin B7, metabolizes essential carbs, fats, and proteins that aid in supporting these enviable physical attributes, as well as aiding in hormone function. But did you know that on top of this, biotin does so much more? Let’s take a look at what other benefits you could be reaping from taking a biotin supplement.  1. Lowering Cholesterol We know the drill: yearly check-up, get our cholesterol levels checked, keep it down with proper nutrition and exercise, check! But did you know that biotin has been linked with lowering levels of lipoprotein aka the Bad Cholesterol? Yep! Recent studies have shown that the correct amounts of biotin absorption is linked to lowering bad cholesterol [1], which is pretty fantastic, considering high levels of lipoprotein can lead to heart disease and strokes. Studies are still in the works, but it is hopeful that biotin helps fend off high cholesterol, as there is a correlation between increased B7 and decreased lipoprotein. 2. Promotes Fetal Development  It’s well known that pregnant women need an increase in their nutrients during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as the creation of a new living being is tough work! While it is rare to have a complete lack of biotin in one’s nutrition these days, always consult with a medical professional to make sure, as biotin is critical for many enzymatic reactions involved in growth and metabolism. As biotin deficiency has been correlated with skeletal abnormalities in mammals, it is important to ensure optimal intake [2], [3]. An increase in the amount of biotin consumed is often needed to support fetal growth for both parent and child. 3. Supports Optimal Weight Control and Thyroid Health         Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and we as a society still have a way to go in normalizing differences. However, if you and your medical professional are concerned about the negative impact of being overweight on your health and longevity, one such factor to be aware of is making sure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals. This is because biotin, among other essential vitamins, assists in regulating your thyroid, which in turn regulates hormone balance and function, weight, and metabolism. In addition, several enzymes that process and metabolize fat, carbs, and proteins are supported by biotin [4]! Especially if you have certain autoimmune conditions, it can be even more likely that you are biotin deficient, which could, according to studies, negatively impact your thyroid [5]. Consult with a doctor or nutritionist if you are finding it hard to control your weight and health.  The Bottom Line Making sure you are getting adequate amounts of all necessary vitamins and minerals, including biotin, is important. And remember--biotin, or B7, is not just for your hair, skin, and nails--it helps with hormones, your heart and bone health, fetal development, metabolism, and even in the creation of DNA! Seems like it’s important to know if you are getting enough! Biotin is fat-soluble, meaning we have to ingest it--whether by our nutrition or supplements*.
